Senator Moore's Seniors Record
   
Senator Moore was one of the legislators who initiated "Prescription Advantage"- the state's prescription drug assistance program that provides discounts on needed medications and he  stood up to Governor Romney to fight to continue the program and keep it expanding to help more seniors and disabled every year.
 
Senator Moore fought for construction and renovation funds for elderly housing in the district in Blackstone, Uxbridge, Milford, and other area towns to make certain that seniors have a safe, comfortable place to live. 
 
Senator Moore has been a strong advocate for senior citizen services supporting programs such as Tri-Valley Elder Services, helping to provide senior centers in Uxbridge, Milford, Millville, and other area towns. 
 
Senator Moore initiated the MassMedLine toll-free service to advise seniors about the medications they’re taking and to help them obtain free drugs from pharmaceutical companies – a program that’s saved senior citizens in our region over $8 million and helped them obtain the drugs they need. Learn more at www.massmedline.com.
 
Senator Moore was the primary sponsor of legislation that established the SCO or Senior Care Options program to provide low-income seniors who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid to obtain maximum benefits and services to enable them to remain independent rather than be forced to enter a nursing home for care.
 
Senator Moore fought to keep funding in the state budget for the Talking Book program that provides audio tapes of books, magazines, and newspapers to those with vision impairment, and helped lead the effort to successfully overturn Governor Romney’s veto of this important service for seniors and disabled.
 
When HMO’s pulled out of the Greater Milford Area a few years ago, Senator Moore helped many of them retain coverage and, in most cases, keep their regular doctor, by asking Blue Cross to open enrollment to accept them without loss of benefits. 
 
Senator Moore is a vocal advocate for annual funding for Councils on Aging and for services important to our seniors.
 
Senator Moore was one of the lead sponsors of the "Patient’s Bill of Rights"- a law that gives patients the ability to appeal decisions by HMO bureaucrats when they disagree with seniors and their doctors on needed medical attention.
 
Senator Moore fought for extra funding for nursing homes so that they can maintain and improve the quality of care that they provide to seniors who reside with them.
 
Senator Moore joined with his legislative colleagues to overturn a Romney Administration policy to try to seize the home and assets of seniors after they die if they were receiving Medicaid for care so that they can leave what little they have to their loved ones.
 
Senator Moore supported efforts to improve the Homestead Exemption that allows seniors to protect their home by increasing the value of the home to keep pace with property revaluation.
 
Senator Moore have advocated for state and health plan support of annual flu shots to protect vulnerable seniors and reduce the chances that they will contract the flu and, perhaps, pneumonia.
 
Senator Moore was the primary sponsor of legislation that passed the Senate to expand the scope of optometric care to assist with early diagnosis and treatment of Glaucoma – a bill that has been applauded by Attorney General Tom Reilly as beneficial to consumers.
