Senate Honors Sutton educator and coach |
|
February 24, 2005 – Senator Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge) called for the Senate today to honor Stephen Romasco of Sutton by adjourning today’s session in his memory. Mr. Romasco, a beloved member of the community, is remembered as a devoted husband and father, highly respected educator and long-time coach of Sutton Boys Varsity Basketball Team. He died suddenly this week of a massive cerebral hemorrhage following his team’s victory in the Clark University Basketball Tournament. “Mr. Romasco will be missed dearly by his family and friends and remembered fondly by the generations of students he mentored as a teacher and a coach. His dedication to his community was admirable and will not be forgotten,” said Senator Moore. Mr. Romasco, a graduate of Assumption College, was a fixture on the Sutton bench. During his 30 season, he amassed 435 wins, six Clark University Tournament titles, and three Central Massachusetts championships. He also taught social studies at the school, retiring in November after 34 years as an educator. During today’s session Senator Moore spoke of Mr. Romasco’s commendable attributes and closed the session stating, “The Massachusetts Senate extends it condolences to the Romasco family, the Central Massachusetts athletic community, and the residents of Sutton, where he lived and worked, and the people of his hometown of Northbridge where he grew up and graduated high school as a member of the Class of 1965.” |
