BOSTON, April 1, 2005 – Senator Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge) has announced that district communities will be receiving a portion of $120 million in state aid to upgrade local roads and bridges. The funding was released earlier than the past few years to facilitate local project planning for the upcoming spring construction season. Last year, funding was released in mid-August, well into that year’s road and bridge construction season. “These funds are critical to insuring the safety of the roads that serve our area. The construction work will also help to further stimulate our regional economy,” said Senator Moore. Road funds from the state are referred to as Chapter 90 funds. Chapter 90 funding is allocated to cities and towns based on a formula that takes into account the number of miles of local roadway, population and the employment rate in a given community. The funding is reimbursed to the communities on approved transportation projects as construction unfolds. This year the state released an additional $20 million in Chapter 90 funds to ensure that local road and bridge construction remains active. The total $120 million in Chapter 90 funding is on top of a requirement for the Massachusetts Highway Department to spend at least $450 million a year on the statewide road and bridge program. This past fiscal year, the state spent $456 million on the road and bridge program. The following is a list of Chapter 90 funding for each town within Senator Moore’s district: |
