Statements by Senator Moore and Becky Kalagher, President of the Bay State Trail Riders Association, on federal funding for the Southern New England Trunkline Trail |
|
May 20, 2005 - Senator Moore was pleased with the news of the federal funding as he has been a long-time supporter of the Bay State Trail Riders. Last year, the senator supported and won funding approval for the construction of the Trunkline Tail Bridge through the Legislature Transportation Bond Bill. The senator commended the groups fundraising efforts and stated, "This is welcome news as the Bay State Trail Riders dedicate many hours on their fundraising campaign. Their efforts have, and continue to, raise significant funding for community projects. I applaud their work and look forward to working with them on future projects." Becky Kalagher, president of the Bay State Trail Riders Association, was delighted with the award, which she believes will help to make the trail safer for trail users. “We are extremely pleased to be receiving this grant; it just puts us that much closer to our goal of actually getting this bridge back in place for the safety of trail users on the Southern New England Trunkline Trail. It's a great trail that's enjoyed by many users that runs from the CT border in Douglas, MA to Franklin, MA. This trail is also a designated National Recreational Trail. We hope that everyone will support us in this endeavor to complete this project for our community rail trail. We have a number of events scheduled to help raise additional funds and always welcome sponsorships.” |
