Northbridge receives $584,000 community development grant |
|
May 27, 2005 - Northbridge has been awarded a $584,000 Community Development Action Grant from the Department of Housing and Community Development, according to Senator Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge). The grant is part of $5.49 million in Community Development grants awarded to seven communities across the state. “Redevelopment is essential to the continued social and economic health of the Commonwealth. It transforms once neglected areas into vital centers for culture and commerce, developing jobs and giving people an informal public space in which to gather,” said Senator Moore. “Northbridge’s efforts represent an excellent contribution to the economic and social well-being of Massachusetts and the town deserves the highest possible recognition.” The grants will be used for infrastructure improvements to support the Downtown Revitalization Underground Utilities Project. The completion of the project will bring vitality and attract businesses to the town. In July of 2004, Congressman Richard E. Neal and Senator Moore toured downtown Northbridge to meet with town employees, local agencies and survey renovations to the downtown area. Senator Moore noted the Streetscape project site was one of the highlights on the tour. With state funding, the town was able to complete the project revitalizing the areas that the state once designated a “blighted area.” More information on Senator Moore’s issues can be obtained by checking his web site www.senatormoore.com. |
