June 30, 2005 – Jason Chan of Hopedale has been selected to serve as an interim Legislative Aide for Senator Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge) for the summer. Timothy M. Hoppe of Milford is the Senator’s Director of Constituent and Community Relations and will be taking a leave of absence to attend an intense language program in Vermont. “As an intern, Jason brought a true sense of dedication and service to my office, helping both my staff and my constituents resolve a variety of issues and problems,” Senator Moore said. “I think what most impressed me about Jason was his willingness and ability to adjust to the ever-changing demands of working in a legislative office. He will greatly benefit the office.” Instead of diving into a swimming pool and law books this summer, Chan will be submerging himself with constituent issues at Senator Moore’s office. For two months, he will handle communication with constituents and community leaders, staff district office hours and will research and respond to constituent requests for assistance. During the Spring and Summer of 2003, Senator Moore hosted Chan as a Legislative Intern at his State House Office. During that time, Chan worked on numerous matters involving the communities that the veteran lawmaker represents and the very complex health care policy issues his office is involved with. A 2000 graduate of Hopedale High School, Chan graduated magna cum laude from Northeastern University in 2004 with a degree in Political Science and Psychology. A Dean’s List student, he was a member of the Psi Chi Honor Society and the Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society. During his junior year, he spent a year working on John Kerry’s presidential campaign. He was an integral part of Senator Kerry’s motorcade and logistic team. Last summer Chan’s intelligence and hard work persuaded the Senator to offer him the opportunity to manage his 2004 reelection campaign as the field director. Chan very quickly organized the Senator’s campaign operations and built an excellent base of volunteers throughout the Worcester and Norfolk Senatorial District before leaving to begin school at the New England School of Law in August 2004. He is the son of Sam and Connie Chan, and resides in Hopedale. His sister, Denise is the Director of Communications for Senator Moore. |
