| Local communities receive Fire Safety Equipment Grants |
|
July 6, 2005 – Several towns have been awarded funding for fire safety equipment from the Executive Office of Public Safety (EOPS) according to Senator Richard T. Moore. The funding will be used to meet changes in fire codes and to purchase fire safety equipment. “To prevent another tragedy such as The Station nightclub fire in Rhode Island, the state and local officials must work together to address these issues,” said Senator Moore. “With these funds, fire departments can continue to protect the citizens in their towns.” The grant program originated from part of last year’s House Bill No. 4550, An Act Relative to Fire Safety in the Commonwealth, which appropriated $10 million for municipalities to assist in providing firefighter safety equipment, and help with certain personnel and overtime expenditures incurred by departments. The amount each town is awarded is based on population. Each town receives at least $15,000 of the total $10 million. The following towns have received EOPS Municipal Fire Safety Grants:
