Senator Moore discusses health policy with Portuguese leader

BOSTON, August 22, 2005 – Joao Breda, Director General for Health in Portugal’s Ministry for Health met with Senator Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge) to discuss Massachusetts health reform legislation and to exchange ideas about health policy. Senator Moore, as Senate Chair of the Legislature’s Committee on Health Care Financing, is among those leading efforts in Massachusetts to expand access to safe, affordable health care.

Mr. Breda is visiting Massachusetts to discuss state and local health policies as part of an international exchange program through “Emerging Leaders in World Affairs,” and “One on One Diplomacy.” “Emerging Leaders” is a program administered by WorldBoston, and “One on One Diplomacy” is part of the U. S. Department of State International Visitors Program.

Mr. Breda is a nutritionist in the Department for Health Promotion and Education. In addition, he serves as Portugal’s representative at the World Health Organization summits and as DGSANCO (European Health and Consumer Protection.) He is also a Professor of Nutrition at several universities in Portugal.

Senator Moore told Mr. Breda that he has a large number of Portuguese constituents many of whom live in Milford, the largest town in Moore’s senatorial district.
