Scholarships available to registered nurses in Massachusetts

January 30, 2006 - In an effort to promote nurse educators in the state, Senator Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge) announced the opportunity for registered nurses to apply for a “Promise of Nursing Regional Faculty Fellowship (PON Fellowship) administered by the National Student Nurses’ Association, Inc. Registered nurses who are enrolled in graduate level, degree granting colleges and universities may be eligible for the PON Fellowship.

“It’s important for registered nurses to consider applying for this fellowship, said Senator Moore. “Nurses are the backbone of our health care system and all parties must work together to deal with the nursing shortage crisis.”

The fellowship program, awards up to $7,500 annually is created to assist registered nurses who are studying to become a nurse educator. The funds may be applied to books, academic fees, and tuition. Funding for this program comes from the Promise of Nursing gala held in Boston last year and Johnson and Johnson. Applications must be received by March 10, 2006.
