| Millville receives critical road repair funds |
|
BOSTON – After a personal push by Senator Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge), the Executive Office of Transportation has awarded the town of Millville $227,850 in critical highway funds. The grant will allow the town to construct and repair the Lincoln Street Catch Basin and Stone Wall – a project critical to the health of Millville’s transportation infrastructure and for the safety of its residents. “Secretary of Transportation, John Cogliano personally assured me that the town would be receiving funds for this important project,” said Senator Moore. “While it took some time to win approval, I am pleased that the secretary recognized the project’s critical nature and expedited these funds.” Lincoln Street is a major thoroughfare in Millville, supporting 4000 vehicles each day. It is the town’s most direct route to Interstate 495 and provides crucial access to Blackstone-Millville Regional School District’s elementary, junior, and high schools. Unfortunately, in its current state, Mass Highway estimates that the road’s stone wall is in danger of structural failure. In announcing the grant, Senator Moore applauded the efforts of numerous town officials, most notably long-time highway surveyor John Dean, for their tireless advocacy for this important repair project. “The town put together an excellent proposal that highlighted the importance of repairing this wall. Through their hard work and determination, this major thoroughfare will remain open and the public will be able to travel Lincoln Street with peace of mind.” To learn more about Senator Moore’s legislation and his work in the Massachusetts Senate, log onto his web site at www.senatormoore.com |
