State looking to hire more nurses

Senator Moore encourages nurses to consider applying

August 30, 2006 - The Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) is seeking applicants for nursing positions within state government, according to Senator Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge). “Massachusetts is experiencing a serious shortage of nursing personnel, and has recently enhanced pay and benefits to attract more nursing candidates,” Moore explained.

“Nursing is a personally rewarding profession, and nurses are the front line professionals who provide the care and expertise to help those who need health care,” Senator Moore explained. Senator Moore is the Senate Chairman of the Legislature’s Committee on Health Care Financing.

The Romney Administration recently reached a new contract agreement with the Massachusetts Nurses Association. According to EOHHS Undersecretary Fred Habib, the agreement “aligns nursing salaries and other related employment benefits with nursing compensation levels in the private sector.” The new agreement, Habib said, achieves “a competitive foothold within the nursing industry, making employment with the state an appealing prospect.”
