Local communities receive $81,000+ in funding from Massachusetts Cultural Council 

September 19, 2006, Boston...Local cultural councils have been awarded a total of $81,370 in funding from the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), Senator Richard T. Moore announced today. The funding will be used to support cultural programs within the district. Each council receives an appropriation from MCC, based on the state of local aid formula, and uses it to award grants based on individual community needs.

“I am pleased that the MCC recognizes the effort of dedicated volunteers within our local cultural councils,” said Senator Moore (D-Uxbridge). “The arts, sciences and humanities are an integral component of vibrant communities. We must continually work to preserve that rich culture.”

The MCC’s Local Cultural Council Program (LCC) is the most extensive system of its kind in the nation to support arts, sciences, and humanities. This grassroots program provides funding to all of Massachusetts’ 351 cites and towns through a network of 329 LCCs. The program supports community-based art projects that foster collaboration, promote important aspects of local culture and history, support learning and accessibility, and celebrate diversity.
