| Hartnett Middle School receives $8,000 in funding from Massachusetts Cultural Council |

September 19, 2006, Boston...The Frederick W. Hartnett Middle School in Blackstone has been awarded a total of $8,000 in funding from the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), Senator Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge) announced today. These grants support a variety of cultural activities that benefit local residents. “I am pleased that the MCC recognizes the efforts of providing enriching and educational experiences to our residents and schools,” said Senator Moore. “The arts, sciences and humanities are an integral component of vibrant communities. We must continually work to preserve that rich culture.” Frederick W. Hartnett Middle School was the only school in Senator Moore’s district to receive this funding of $8,000 which will be used for an artist residency program with curriculum development and professional development activities to engage students in grades 6-7 in learning. The MCC’s Creative School Program funds schools and school districts working to integrate arts and culture into the curriculum. This is the first year of a two –year grant for Hartnett Middle School.
