| Dudley receives library construction grants, moves up on waiting list |
|
November 8, 2006...The Pearle L. Crawford Memorial Library in Dudley has been awarded $1,729,153 in the 2004-2005 grant round from the Massachusetts Public Library Construction Program administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) according to Senator Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge) and Representative Paul Kujawski (D-Webster). The grant is a partial award totaling $2,314,574. The library is now in the top spot on the waiting list for the remaining $585,421. “The Pearle L. Crawford Memorial Library has continuously made major contributions to the education of children and adults in the community,” said Moore. “With the award of this grant, the library will be able to expand its space to further provide quality service and resources to schools and better serve the needs of all residents in the community. “The library is the heart of the community,” said Kujawski. “It is always nice to see money go towards such an important part of the town of Dudley because it embraces the social and educational climate of the community. Projects may be either to construct a new facility or an addition/renovation to an existing building that may or may not add space but does involve a significant reorganization of functional space. "The Library Building Committee is extremely pleased to be awarded a significant portion of our grant at this time,” Antoinette J. Yitchinsky; Chair, Dudley Library Building Committee. “It enables us to continue moving toward our goal: the construction of a valuable asset for Dudley, a resource for Dudley's future. It's been a lot of hard work and we are glad to be here." Applications were reviewed based on the following evaluative criteria as stated in the regulations, application and review sheet: general overview, project information, needs assessment, planning process, building program and its relation to project, project design, financial, site and exterior design, library services (adult, children, staff member and custodian) and overall assessment. Funding for the remaining award to the library is pending the passage of a new Bond Authorization. |
