January 11, 2007...Shawn P. Collins of Webster has been appointed to serve as Director of Constituent and Community Relations for Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge. Collins succeeds Timothy M. Hoppe of Milford who was recently promoted to the position of Legislative and Budget Director. Moore's long-time aide, Brian Cournoyer of Southbridge recently left the office to join the Connecticut Hospital Association. “Shawn is a great addition to my office and I’m confident that he will assist the constituents with determination and compassion,” said Moore. “Shawn is no stranger to the Statehouse and is a resident of Webster which will give him the ability to keep my constituents well-informed.” He served as an intern in the senator’s Statehouse office during the spring of 2006. In his new role, he will handle communication with constituents and community leaders, staff district office hours and will research and respond to constituent requests for assistance. A 2004 graduate of Bartlett High School, Collins is currently a senior attending Suffolk University in Boston, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Public Relations. A Dean’s List student, he is the Chairman of the Housing and Facilities Committee and was the Speaker of the Class of 2008 on the Student Government Association. He also serves as the co-founder, creator and sports editor of the “The Suffolk Voice,” a student newspaper on campus In the summer of 2006, Collins was elected to Webster Redevelopment Authority. This fall, Collins served as the Webster town coordinator for Sen. Moore’s successful re-election campaign working on grassroots efforts throughout the town.
