encourages college juniors and seniors to
take the opportunity to apply for the 2007
Washington Summer Scholars Program sponsored
by the New England Council before its
deadline of May 15, 2007. The program
provides a summer stipend for housing and
expenses to undergraduate students who have
secured positions to work as interns in the
offices of members of the New England
delegation.

2007...Picking up where he left off last
year with Massachusetts landmark health care
reform bill, Sen. Richard T. Moore,
D-Uxbridge, has filed legislation to curb
the ballooning cost of health care for many
of the state’s cities and towns. Moore’s
bill, representing a cooperative effort of
legislative, municipal and union leaders,
would allow municipalities, with the consent
of their employees unions, to join the
Commonwealth’s Group Insurance Commission
(GIC).

for health coverage called high
Lower healthcare bids are requested

2007...Mandating health insurance coverage
that would cost the average individual $380
a month is untenable, a state board decided
yesterday.
The board,
which is overseeing the state's universal
health insurance law, postponed a vote
yesterday to set minimal requirements for
coverage and instead requested lower-cost
bids from insurers.

received more than $1 billion in grants and
low-interest loans from federal and state
governments, as well as millions of dollars
in scholarships from colleges and
universities. However, many students and
their families are either unaware that such
resources exist, and may need help
navigating the often cumbersome process of
seeking out and applying for financial aid.

announced the appointment of Massachusetts
State Senator Richard T. Moore to represent
the National Conference of State
Legislatures (NCSL) on the recently
established State Alliance for e-Health.
Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen and Vermont
Gov. Jim Douglas will chair the development
of consensus efforts to improve the nation's

succeeds Timothy M. Hoppe of Milford who was
recently promoted to the position of

ten-year tradition, delivered hot coffee,
treats and heartfelt gratitude to the Senate
Clerk William Welch and his staff on the
last day of bill filing. With a box of
coffee, donuts and 250 bills to file,
Senator Moore and staff traveled to the
clerk’s office to in hopes to get
continued support and assistance from them.

10,2007...Sen. Moore, recently welcomed
Blackstone Valley Boys and Girls Club
Executive Director Bruce Paterson and
members Thomas Mullaly and Thomas Holmes to
the statehouse. Mullaly and Holmes, both of
Blackstone were disappointed when they
missed Sen. Moore’s visit to the
Blackstone Valley Boys and Girls Club last
Fall. At their request, Paterson scheduled a
visit to the statehouse for them to meet the
senator. During their visit, Mullaly and
Holmes presented Sen. Moore with a
Blackstone Valley Boys and Girls Club jacket
for his support of all Boys and Girls Clubs
throughout Massachusetts.

releases “A Healthy Commonwealth 2012,”
five-year health care policy plan
January 9,
2007...Before being sworn into office for
his sixth term as the state senator for the
Worcester and Norfolk District, Sen. Moore,
highlighted his health care priorities for
2007-2008. Today, the Senate Chair of the
Health Care Financing Committee released
“A Healthy Commonwealth 2012,” a
comprehensive five-year policy proposal that
spells out specific health care goals for
the state.
“While the
reforms of last year have received much
attention and praise both here at home and
across the nation, they were just the first
steps toward creating a world-class health
care system for everyone in our
Commonwealth,” said Moore, one of the
authors of the landmark health care reform
law. “If we are to sustain and move beyond
the dramatic gains being realized with the
passage of health reform, key quality,
safety and cost control measures are
needed.”
