Senator Moore hosts "The State of Local Aid 2007" briefing in Oxford

March 16, 2007...Senator Richard T. Moore, today, hosted a briefing for local officials at the Oxford Free Public Library. The discussion featured presentations on budget and local aid matters by Senator Moore, Roger Hatch of the Department of Education and Robert Johnson from the Group Insurance Commission.

The discussion, attended by over 30 local administrative, finance and school officials, focused on a variety of issues affecting the financial conditions of are communities and school districts. Specifically, attendees heard a presentation on Chapter 70 School Aid and a briefing on a plan to allow municipalities to purchase their employees' health insurance through the state's Group Insurance Commission. Senator Moore is the lead Senate sponsor of legislation that would permit cities and towns to opt-in to the GIC in an effort to address the skyrocketing cost of providing health coverage.
