Sen. Moore informs MassHealth members and providers of available transportation to medical appointments
March 26, 2007...If you are a MassHealth member you may be eligible for transportation to a medical appointment, according to Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge and Health Law Advocates (HLA). By asking a doctor or a health care provider to submit a request to MassHealth, individuals and their children can get a prescription (PT-1) for transportation if approved. “I feel it is very important for MassHealth members to know about this service that may be available to them,” said Sen. Moore. “I encourage providers and members to take the look at the program and to let the public know about it”. To inform the public of this service, HLA has created two flyers, one for MassHealth providers and one for members. “Knowing your rights as a Mass Health member is critical. In some instances, MassHealth does have a legal obligation to provide transportation to patients who need to get to medical appointments,” said Rebecca Rodman, Staff Attorney at HLA.” HLA created these flyers to let the public know that this important right exists. This is especially important for Dudley and other towns in southern Worcester County, where public transportation is minimal or doesn’t exist.” The transportation voucher can be especially helpful for transporting children to appointments. For example, eligible children may be picked up at school and driven to their doctor’s offices if their parents cannot transport them.
