Sen. Moore urges students to participate in poster contest

March 27, 2007...Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, urges students in grades 1-6 to participate in the 2007 Amusement Safety Poster Contest sponsored by the Department of Public Safety (DPS). 

“This contest is a way to promote safety and develop an understanding among our children of the need to obey rules and play safe when they get on amusement park rides this summer,” said Sen. Moore. 

All children in public, private and home-schooled programs and recreation centers are invited to compete for contest prizes in multiple grade levels. Posters will be judged in three groups:

  • Group One – 1st and 2nd Grades
  • Group Two – 3rd and 4th Grades
  • Group Three – 5th and 6th Grades

The contest is designed to prompt safety discussion among families as summer outings take place at amusement parks and carnivals. Posters theme must be related to amusement safety in a positive approach and be the original concept of the student.

Selected posters will be included in the 2008 Amusement Safety Awareness Calendar produced by DPS. Winners of the statewide competition will receive United States Maturing Savings bonds:

  • $1,000 for the overall winner
  • $500 for the 1st place winner in each grade category
  • $250 for the 2nd place winner in each grade category
  • $100 for the 3rd place winner in each grade category
  • $50 for the 4th place winner in each grade category
  • $25 for the 5th place winner in each grade category

Winners are expected to be announced no later than Monday, June 11, 2007. Posters must be submitted to Massachusetts Department of Public Safety, Amusement Safety Poster Contest, 1 Ashburton Place, Room 1301, Boston, MA 02108 by Friday, May 11, 2007.
