Peterson and Moore announce feasibility study grant

May 3, 2007... State Representative George N. Peterson, Jr. (R-Grafton) and Senator Richard Moore (D-Uxbridge) are pleased to announce that Alternatives Unlimited in Whitinsville has received a $33,759 Feasibility Study Grant from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative’s Renewable Energy Trust Fund. These funds will be used at the Whitin Mill sight for a solar energy collection system.

The grant will be used to study a recently patented method of capturing solar energy. Underneath the 10,000 sq meter parking lot at the Whitin Mill, a collection system for solar energy will be built and monitored by a project team. The parking lot is located atop a hill which receives direct sunlight through the day, making it an ideal collection location.

“I am very excited by the prospects of this study” said Peterson. “Not only will the Whitin mill project benefit greatly from this renewable energy source, but it is a great step for the State in responsible energy consumption.”

“Alternatives has always been in the forefront of serving those with disabilities helping them toward a brighter future,” said Moore. “Employing renewable energy to serve this population in a cost-effective manner advances Alternatives role as a progressive provider of human services. We can all be proud to have Alternatives in our community and am pleased that the MTC saw the project’s significance in promoting clean energy.”

A project team will be assembled to study the effectiveness of this renewable initiative. An engineering consultant will be monitoring the system integration and power conservation of this collection system. A financial feasibility will also be conducted.
