Moore thanks responders, community in letter to editor on the Bernat Mill Fire in Uxbridge

July 24, 2007...Senator Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, today send the following letter to the editor.

To the Editor:

The disastrous Bernat Mill fire on July 21st has impacted not only those displaced by this tragic event, but the entire Uxbridge community. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who were harmed by this terrible conflagration, and we hope that they will summon the strength and energy to rebuild their lives and businesses.

There are many individuals, agencies, and communities deserving of thanks and commendation for their response to this unprecedented tragedy. Fire Chief Ostroskey was first among the heroes of the day offering exceptionally able, effective and professional leadership. All the firefighters, EMT’s, police, public works personnel, emergency managers, building inspectors, environmental engineers and others from Uxbridge, surrounding communities and state agencies provided valuable assistance in responding to the fire. Nearby businesses and neighborhood residents offered food and other supplies to those responders in an impressive display of Uxbridge’s community spirit!

Representatives Callahan and Kujawski and I want to thank the Governor, Lt. Governor, Fire Marshal Coan and so many others for their support. At the state level, we will do everything possible to aid and expedite the recovery. In the short run, we need to help the businesses find new or temporary locations, employees need short term financial help until their businesses can re-open, and the mill owners need our encouragement and support in rebuilding once the smoke clears and the cleanup is complete.

Richard T. Moore, State Senator
Uxbridge
