Moore sends letter to Senate Clerk to explain his absence from Senate Session on September 20th

September 20, 2007...Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, who is currently in Argentina as a member of a delegation of state legislators visiting the country sent a letter to Senate Clerk William F. Welch today to explain his absence from the Senate Session scheduled for September 20th.

The National Conference of State Legislatures, of which Moore is an officer, annually sends legislators and legislative staff to developing nations to help these countries develop democratic institutions. Argentina is more advanced than many countries, but legislators still believe there are many benefits to an exchange of ideas. State legislators in Argentina have expressed an interest in developing oversight capacity over their executive branch counterparts such as in state legislatures in the United States.

“The schedule of meetings is pretty intense,” Moore explained. “I’m certainly honored to be invited to share some of my legislative experience and my knowledge of health care issues, as well as to learn about conditions in Argentina,” he stated. "I regret that because of this long-standing commitment, I am unable to attend today's Senate session."

The text of Sen. Moore's letter is below:

September 20, 2007

Mr. William Welch
Clerk of the Senate
State House, Room 335
Boston, MA 02133

Dear Mr. Clerk:

I will be out of the country on official business with the National Conference of State Legislatures from September 17th through September 28th, 2007.

I will be unable to attend any formal sessions scheduled during this time. Any roll call votes that I miss are entirely for this reason.

I respectfully request that a copy of this letter be printed in the Journal of the Senate. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Sincerely,

RICHARD T. MOORE
State Senator
Worcester & Norfolk District
