Sen. Moore and Rep. Fernandes announce Cultural Grants for area croups

Grants aid a variety of cultural activities benefiting 10th Worcester District 

September 26, 2007...Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, and Rep. John Fernandes, D-Milford, recently announced that the Massachusetts Cultural Council has awarded local grants totaling $16,440 for the cultural councils in the communities of Milford, Mendon and Hopedale. The grants will be utilized to celebrate the arts, humanities and sciences through a variety of programs available to the general public.

Alicea and Moore announce state cultural grants to local communities

September 20, 2007...Representative Geraldo Alicea (D-Charlton) and Senator Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge) today announced that grants totaling over $15,000 have been awarded to cultural organizations in the towns of Oxford ($5690) and Southbridge ($9720) by the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC). This support provides each town with grant money to be used for a wide range of educational and cultural experiences for children as well as members of the community.

September 20, 2007... State grants totaling $81,370 have been awarded to cultural organizations and Hartnett Middle School in Sen. Richard T. Moore’s, D-Uxbridge, district by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency that supports public programs and educational activities in the arts, sciences, and humanities.

Senator Moore reads to South County Pediatrics patients in Webster 

September 20, 2007... Sen. Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge) recently visited the doctors and nurses of South County Pediatrics in Webster to show his support for Reach Out and Read (ROR), a literacy program that teaches parents about the importance of reading to children at an early age. During his visit, the senator read the book, “Little Teddy Left Behind” to their young patients.

Bill puts computer classes a click away

September 20, 2007...Waltham resident Robert Pilicy says he is proof "you can teach an old dog new tricks."

Pilicy, 63, has improved his computer skills through courses at the William F. Stanley Senior Center. "I only recently familiarized myself with the world of cyberspace. I am not an expert yet," he said.

September 20, 2007...Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, who is currently in Argentina as a member of a delegation of state legislators visiting the country sent a letter to Senate Clerk William F. Welch today to explain his absence from the Senate Session scheduled for September 20th.

Sen. Moore to share expertise with Argentina’s state legislators

September 18, 2007... As a national officer of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), Senator Richard T. Moore has been invited by NCSL to join its annual international study tour to meet with state legislators from another country. This year, state legislators from Argentina will host the NCSL officers for an exchange of ideas on public policies and legislative procedures. 

The U. S. delegation will visit several state capitols and meet with Argentine state legislators in Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Neuquen, San Martin de los Andes, and Bariloche. In addition, they will visit the Presidential Palace, known as the “Casa Rosada,” or “Pink House,” which is comparable to the White House in the United States.

Many Mass. hospitals will pay for errors

Moore testifies in support of his bill to require hospitals to medical error and infection rates

September 12, 2007...Today, Sen. Richard T. Moore delivered testimony before the Joint Committee on Public Health in support of legislation he filed that would, among other things, require hospitals to report their rates of medical errors and hospital acquired infections (HAIs). 

" Massachusetts must act if it wants to remain a state that can justifiable claim to lead the national discourse on health care reform," said Moore, who chairs the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing. " The federal government and an increasing number of states and local governments are taking steps to better monitor and reduce HAI and medical errors."

Mendon student investigates mandatory minimum sentencing

September 10, 2007...Summer internships give students an opportunity to learn about a career field while enhancing their future resume and making key contacts. One local college student, with a career interest in criminal justice, took on the challenge of two intern projects this summer that resulted in gaining all three benefits. His work also won praise from the district attorney and an influential state senator.

Armen Antranigian of Mendon completes internship at the State House

September 4, 2007... Armenag “Armen” Antranigian of Mendon recently completed a summer internship at the State House with Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge. Antranigian, a sophomore at Providence College, completed special projects for the senator and his staff and learned about the day to day operations of the state legislature.
