Bellingham Housing Authority receives emergency state funds
The Bellingham Housing Authority has been awarded $85,000 in technical assistance and emergency capital improvement bond funding from Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) according to Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, and Rep. Jennifer M. Callahan, D-Sutton. “This critical assistance will help the Bellingham Housing Authority and the town make necessary upgrades to the housing residences at Depot Court,” said Moore. “The care and safety of our seniors can not be overlooked. Fortunately for this award and the proactive efforts of the Authority, these continuous improvements will provide a safe living environment for those residents living at the housing development.” This funding comes from an account set aside by the Legislature to address emergency needs, as they arise, in public housing developments. The Bellingham Housing Authority will use the funding to supplement its own capital reserves to replace entrance ramps at the Authority’s Depot Court housing development. “This crucial funding will help to ensure the continued safety and wellbeing of our senior housing residents and their visitors at Depot Court,” said Callahan. Having secured $50K in previous funding for repairs of sidewalks, walkways and ramps, Callahan noted, “This grant demonstrates that the ongoing work of replacing the handicap ramps remains a top public safety priority for the Housing Authority and state officials alike. I am thrilled the Commonwealth is able to provide such a large sum to the Bellingham Housing Authority to offset the renovation costs of these infrastructure improvements.” For more information on Sen.
