School Building Authority approves Uxbridge High School proposal
November 28, 2007 ... The Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) today voted to move Uxbridge Public School’s proposal for a new high school into the next phase in the process for potential funding. The proposed high school is one of 83 projects throughout the Commonwealth approved for a feasibility study, which will be done in collaboration with the MSBA. "Uxbridge school leaders and concerned parents have worked hard in the past few years to educate the community, and now state officials, on the critical need for a new high school,” said Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge. “This decision (by the MSBA) may not be a touchdown, but it moves us further toward the goal of assuring a high quality high school educational experience. Uxbridge has always had caring, dedicated teachers. The community can now take another major step toward providing them with a first class facility in which to teach. The fact that Uxbridge was chosen by the MSBA as one of its pilot studies gives the town a head start on completing the next phase of the application process." The MSBA received a total of 423 Statements of Interest (SOI) from 162 school districts. The projects moving forward in the new grant process represent the neediest of the schools that met the MSBA’s criteria. “We are prioritizing improvements of spaces with direct educational impact,” stated Katherine Craven, MSBA Executive Director. “Only the most cost effective and educationally beneficial designs will be approved to ensure that state and local tax dollars go farther.” The 83 schools will eventually become the first part of the MSBA’s $2.5 billion five year capital pipeline. |
