Moore announces Senate sessions broadcasting live on the internet
January 7, 2008 ... At last week’s session of the Massachusetts Senate, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, and his colleagues announced that residents can now watch the Senate’s formal sessions through a live webcast on the Internet. With this new tool, the public will be able to watch each session in real time, and will also be able to view archived sessions. “I am pleased that my constituents will be able to log on and view the legislative process first hand,” said Moore. “This unprecedented access will allow those who cannot travel to the State House to see the deliberations first hand, through a very cost effective method. The live video will also serve as a great learning tool for classes to learn the legislative process as it happens.” Webcasts of the Senate can be accessed through Sen. Moore’s web site at www.senatormoore.com or through www.masslegislature.tv. Captioning will be available on each webcast. “It is necessary that we provide the public with access to their Legislature,” said Senator Stanley Rosenberg, D-Amherst, who championed the effort to produce Senate webcasting. “By providing live access to sessions, we are giving residents from the Berkshire Hills to the tip of Cape Cod the ability to be actively involved in government.” State House Americans with Disabilities Act Coordinator Carl Richardson said he fully supports the inclusion of captioning with the webcasts. “As someone who relies on captioning, I am very excited about the Massachusetts Legislature's commitment to provide captioning so that the deaf and hard of hearing community can participate fully in their government,” he said. “For many, it will be the first time in their lives they will be able to do so.”
