Public Health Commissioner John Auerbach presents Sen. Moore with an award for his leadership in reducing hospital acquired infections.
Moore receives hospital acquired infection award

February 13, 2008 ... During Wednesday’s Public Health Council meeting, the Council recognized Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, for his bold and effective leadership in reducing hospital acquired infections (HAI).

According to the Department of Public Health (DPH), HAIs are developed by 2 million patients nationwide, which results in 90,000 deaths. At Wednesday’s meeting, the Public Health Council voted unanimously to require Massachusetts acute care hospitals to publicly report HAIs. Hospitals will report this information to DPH and the Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety and Medical Error Reduction, which was established by legislation originally sponsored by Sen. Moore.

Sen. Moore is also the lead sponsor of S. 1269, legislation which would make the reporting of HAIs statutorily required.
