Senate advances Whitin Reservoir legislation
March 6, 2008 ... During Thursday’s formal session, the Senate engrossed S 2344, legislation which establishes the Whitin Reservoir Watershed District in the Town of Douglas, according to Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge. “I am pleased to have advanced this legislation through the Senate so quickly,” said Moore. “Establishing the Whitin Reservoir Watershed District will afford the residents of the district an opportunity to preserve the health and functionality of both the dam and reservoir. The bill still needs approval from the House, but today’s action is certainly a good sign.” Sen. Moore and Rep. Paul Kujawski, D-Webster, filed the legislation at the request of the Town of Douglas and the Whitin Reservoir Association, Inc. The purpose of the district is to improve water quality, to enhance, maintain and preserve the Whitin Reservoir and its watershed. The bill now goes to the House for their consideration. |
