Moore hosts local aid meeting

March 27, 2008 ... With many economists predicting a difficult budget year for the Commonwealth and its cities and towns, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, hosted a local aid meeting at the Oxford Free Public Library today to address the projected fiscal conditions and measures he and his colleagues are taking to mitigate the impacts from this gloomy economic forecast.

“There is no secret that as state and local officials, we will have to make very tough decisions in this fiscal year,” said Moore. “By passing a Joint Resolution in the Legislature last week, we have sent a clear message to our cities and towns that even in tough times we will stand by them to ensure that the public services our citizens rely so heavily upon will remain.”

The State of Local Aid: 2008 meeting was arranged by Sen. Moore to outline the budget realities that all officials are facing and develop strategies to overcome them. The meeting was attended by local officials ranging from Town Managers and Administrators, School Superintendents, and Town Accountants. Sen. Moore holds similar meetings throughout his district each year and engages each of the 14 towns he represents throughout.
