Moore commemorates Women’s History Month

April 30, 2008 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, recently presented a Resolution commemorating the month of March as Women’s History Month in the Commonwealth to Lorraine Gorham, President of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Massachusetts. Sen. Moore was the lead sponsor of the Resolution in the Senate, and made the presentation to Ms. Gorham along with Senate President Therese Murray, D-Plymouth.

Sen. Moore is an ardent supporter of Women’s History Month, and his wife Joanne is past president of the Uxbridge Women’s Club and a former Chairman of Directors of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Massachusetts.

Additionally, in 1981, Congress declared Women’s History Week a national holiday. Due to overwhelming support and participation, in 1987, the declaration was extended to include the entire month of March. The celebration seeks to raise awareness of the invaluable contributions women have made to our country, especially in the Commonwealth.
