May 8, 2008 ... During a community health fair held at Nichols College, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, released a health analysis of his senatorial district which was compiled by Oxford High School senior Zachary Tsetsos. The report studied the causes of premature death in the Worcester & Norfolk district and examined the relationship between premature death and access to health care. “There is no question that we know how personally devastating diseases like cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke can be, which makes the contents of this analysis that much more vital to our health professionals,” said Moore. “It is important for us to understand the impact of disease and conditions which shorten our lives, reduce our quality of life, and create considerable burdens for caregivers so that we can take the necessary steps to reduce the frequency with which they occur. Zachary Tsetsos deserves our thanks for helping to focus the spotlight on these issues through his internship report.” Tsetsos’ analysis found that the top three causes of premature death within Sen. Moore’s district are heart disease, cancer, and stroke. The illnesses are also widespread across the Commonwealth and the United States. In fact, heart disease is also the leading cause of death in America. “Working on the Health Analysis Study for Sen. Moore’s district has opened my eyes to a wide range of factors that affect a person’s health,” said Tsetsos. “Most importantly, the report has taught me the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Interning with Sen. Moore’s office was a worthwhile experience that has given me a first-hand opportunity to participate within the Massachusetts legislative process.” The community health fair was presented by Sen. Moore and sponsored by Fallon Community Health Plan and the Fallon Clinic. After the release of the health analysis, a health care panel discussed the findings and other initiatives that can be taken to establish a healthy lifestyle. |
