There are plenty of cats and kittens waiting for new homes

May 29, 2008 ... The month of June is national “Adopt-a-Cat Month” as declared by the American Humane Association. It is the perfect time to promote cat adoptions because the spring and summer months typically bring a surge of cats to the nation’s shelters. When cats are not neutered or spayed, they easily reproduce, and the spring and summer is that time of year when cats are more active, resulting in more kittens showing up at our doors.

Moore informs constituents about Broadcast Digital Transition 

May 29, 2008 ... As a result of congressional action, over-the-air broadcast stations such as ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and PBS will convert to all-digital broadcasting effective February 17, 2009. It is expected that thousands of Massachusetts households will have to purchase new TVs, acquire digital converters or subscribe to cable television to watch local broadcast television stations after that date, according to Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge.

Moore calls for major effort to help veterans with war’s “invisible wounds”

Urges support from Memorial Day audience

May 27, 2008 ... A significant number of veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan are at risk for depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), domestic violence and, even suicide according to a report by the Rand Corporation. The report suggests that the psychological toll of these deployments — many involving prolonged exposure to combat-related stress over multiple rotations — may be disproportionately high compared with the physical injuries of combat.

Moore secures vital funding in Senate budget

May 22, 2008 ... Today, the Senate concluded debate on the FY 2009 budget by adopting several of Sen. Richard T. Moore’s, D-Uxbridge, district and health care amendments.

“Considering the fiscal constraints with which we’re working, I am excited that we were able to maintain our commitment to our communities and present a fiscally responsible and stable budget,” said Moore.

Moore whacks BioPharma over gift ban criticism

Richard Moore, co-chair of the Health Care Financing Committee, defended a Senate ban on gifts from pharmaceutical companies to health care industry workers, which pharma executives have blasted as anti-business. “That’s a foolish position to take, since we’re planning to invest $1 billion in the industry,” Moore told reporters.

May 20, 2008 ... Today at the State House, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, hosted a reception celebrating the 251st Anniversary of the birth of Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de LaFayette, the American Revolutionary War hero and general. 

“LaFayette was one of the greatest American allies, whether he was fighting on our shores in our Revolution, or lobbying officials in France for additional aid and resources,” said Moore.

The $28.04 billion proposal works within the fiscal constraints of the lackluster economy to make targeted investments that will benefit the people of the Commonwealth.

May 8, 2008 ... During a community health fair held at Nichols College, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, released a health analysis of his senatorial district which was compiled by Oxford High School senior Zachary Tsetsos. The report studied the causes of premature death in the Worcester & Norfolk district and examined the relationship between premature death and access to health care.

Milford suggests statewide bill on landlord penalties

May 8, 2008 ... A proposed bill that would penalize landlords of illegal apartments and help their displaced tenants is on its way to the desks of local legislators.

Landlords of illegal apartments would be made to pay relocation costs for tenants who have to move out, a payment of up to six months rent for each tenant and a fine of between $500 and $2,000, according to the proposal drafted by Public Health Director Paul Mazzuchelli.

Moore honors Milford’s “Senior of the Year”

May 7, 2008 ... During a recent stop in Milford, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, presented Milford’s Michael Minichiello with a Senate Citation for his recognition as “Senior of the Year” by the Milford Council on Aging. 

Sen. Moore recognized Mr. Minichiello for his years of service to the Town of Milford and the many organizations for which he selflessly volunteers. Born in 1925, Mr. Minichiello grew upon Cedar Street and attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and is a 1943 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. In addition, Mr. Minichiello is a veteran of World War II, having served as a member of the Naval Seabees.

State health insurance law starting to make a difference
