Moore, Fernandes continue Mill Street Bridge construction efforts

June 27, 2008 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, and Rep. John Fernandes, D-Milford, recently announced that the Mill Street Bridge project in the town of Hopedale will soon resume construction after being halted in March of this year. Construction had been put on hold due to safety concerns about water control.

Moore votes to reform Massachusetts energy policy

June 25, 2008 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, voted on Tuesday to pass a sweeping energy reform package that focuses on promoting and developing energy efficiency and renewable energy across the Commonwealth.

The Green Communities Act emphasizes “Efficiency First Energy Procurement” and requires distribution companies to consider all available energy resources when purchasing power. The bill also mandates that the state’s electric companies purchase the most cost-effective and stable resources, with the goal of procuring all cost-effective energy efficiency and conservation before turning to a more expensive supply from traditional sources.

Moore votes to professionalize contracts for human service providers

Rate adjustments play catch up to inflation and operating costs

June 25, 2008 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, senate chairman of the Committee on Health Care Financing, voted on Tuesday to phase in long overdue rate adjustments for human service providers who contract with the state to deliver health and social services to the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable citizens, from the elderly and chronically ill to the physically and mentally impaired.

June 24, 2008 ... In a ceremony that celebrated the essence and spirit of a small town, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D – Uxbridge, spoke for the dedication of the town of Hopedale’s new flag, which was presented in the Great Hall of Flags at the State House.

Those in attendance of the ceremony included Sen. Moore; Rep. John Fernandes, D–Milford; Eugene Phillips, Hopedale Town Administrator; Robert Burns, Hopedale Selectman; Patricia Goodwin, Executive Assistant to the Board of Selectman; and Carole Cornelison, Superintendent of the Bureau of State Office Buildings who oversees and accepts new flags in the Hall of Flags at the State House.

Moore announces Statements of Interest applications for schools

June 24, 2008 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D – Uxbridge, is announcing that all schools are now eligible to submit Statements of Interest (SOI) to the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA). SOIs are the first step in the MSBA’s new program for school building construction and renovation grants.

Southbridge schools to receive additional funding for Expanded Learning Time initiative

June 16, 2008 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D – Uxbridge, has announced that West Street School and Wells School of Southbridge will both be given additional funding for the state’s Expanded Learning Time (ELT) initiative, pending approval of the state budget. The schools were chosen out of a pool of 37 applications, 27 of which met the guidelines for funding, and eight of which were ultimately granted approval for funding.

June 16, 2008 ... On Friday, June 13, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D – Uxbridge, offered these words at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology (MSPP) in Boston: “We are greatly concerned in this state about the invisible wounds of war – the mental health of our returning veterans, the stress, depression and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) – which raise the specter of rising levels of domestic violence and suicide. We need to begin focusing on their recuperation as well as building awareness and support programs with their families about what to expect when the veterans return.”

Jennifer Callahan, D – Sutton, presented a resolution to the Massachusetts-New Hampshire Chapter of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MA-NH MGFA), recognizing their work as the only volunteer health clinic devoted to the research of Myasthenia Gravis (MG), a rare disease that causes weakness of the voluntary muscles and that can be fatal should proper care not be administered.

June 9, 2008 ... For the fifteenth year, a large gathering of Portuguese-Americans gathered Saturday evening, June 7, in celebration of the Day of Portugal. Music, skits, dancers in traditional Portuguese costumes, and Portuguese food were featured during the evening’s events at the St. Mary of the Assumption Parish Center.

New regulation, monitoring lender loan modification sets national standard in addressing foreclosure crisis

The Patrick-Murray Administration has asked the Division of Banks (DOB) to begin evaluating all state licensed mortgage lenders on the basis of the speed and number of loan modifications they complete for delinquent borrowers seeking help, according to Sen.
