Moore praises National Democratic Platform’s plank on health care information technology

Moore blasts proposed termination of Turnpike's Fast Lane discounts

August 22, 2008 ... In a letter addressed to Alan LeBovidge, the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, responded strongly to a new proposal from the Authority that would relieve the embattled agency's debts, by eliminating the discount for customers of the Fast Lane program. In addition to removing the $0.25 discount for the Route 128 and Allston/Brighton tolls and a $0.50 discount for the Sumner and Ted Williams Tunnels, residents of local Boston neighborhoods like East Boston and the North End would face similar reductions of their discounted services.

439,000 more get health coverage

August 20, 2008 ... Nearly three-quarters of previously uninsured Massachusetts residents now have medical coverage under the state's landmark campaign to extend health insurance to virtually all Bay Staters, according to a report released yesterday by Governor Deval Patrick's administration.

Since the program's launch in June 2006, 439,000 more people have enrolled in health insurance, and nearly half of them signed up for private insurance not funded by taxpayers, says the report from the Division of Health Care Finance and Policy. Before 2006, studies had estimated that about 600,000 Massachusetts residents lacked health insurance.

When a young child is seriously ill

Recently, caring people in and around Uxbridge, dedicated the “Blackstone Valley Angel of Hope and Memorial Garden” next to Peaceful Pond across from the intersection of Whitin Street and East Hartford Avenue. There are currently 85 “Angel of Hope” shrines that have been built across America during the last eleven years to honor the memory of children who have died, and to help their parents and families cope with the tragic loss. There is another “Angel of Hope” shrine in Sturbridge which served as an inspiration to this latest memorial.

Moore supports request for MEFA aid 

August 11, 2008 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, joined 38 of his colleagues in the Senate on Thursday in urging Governor Deval Patrick to act quickly in aiding the Massachusetts Education Finance Authority (MEFA), which announced last week that it would not be able to provide private loans for more than 40,000 college-bound Massachusetts residents.

Moore announces increased funding for nursing shortage, passage of Nursing and Allied Health Trust Fund

August 6, 2008 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, is pleased to announce that the initial $2 million granted for the Massachusetts Nursing and Allied Health Workforce Development Initiative, which addresses shortages in the profession of nursing, has been reinstated by the Legislature after overriding the Governor’s reduction of the funding to $1 million.

Senate, House reach consensus on comprehensive health care cost containment legislation

August 1, 2008 ... The Senate and House on Thursday reached consensus on comprehensive legislation that will usher in the next phase of health care reform in Massachusetts with a package of new initiatives aimed at bringing down escalating health care costs and creating greater access to primary care. 

“Two years ago, we took historic steps to expand access to health care for every citizen of the Commonwealth,” said Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, Senate chairman of the Health Care Financing Committee. “This bill takes the next critical step by improving the quality and affordability of health care. It launches several initiatives essential to creating a transparent system of quality improvement and cost containment, and I am proud to join with the Senate President and my colleagues in the Legislature in approving this comprehensive initiative.”
