Moore applauds bipartisan effort to curtail federal cost-shifting to states

September 25, 2008...The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) strongly supports a new Congressional initiative to ease the burden on state level taxpayers resulting from programs mandated by the federal government, according to Massachusetts Senator Richard T. Moore, NCSL's Vice President. In a release, Moore, on behalf of NCSL, applauded the efforts of Representatives Virginia Foxx, R-North Carolina, and Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, for introducing the Unfunded Mandates Information and Transparency Act of 2008.

Historic Blackstone Viaduct Bridge open for drivers and pedestrians again

September 23, 2008...When visitors to the Blackstone Valley travel along the beautiful roads and trails that weave throughout the landscape, they are often greeted by the Blackstone Viaduct Bridge, which is listed on the Register of National Historic Places. The viaduct, which is located on Farnum Street near the intersection of Canal and Mill Streets, has been reopened for access, according to Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge.

Moore lauds opening of Blackstone Valley Regional Recycling Center

September 22, 2008...In an effort to become an environmentally friendly epicenter of several Blackstone Valley towns, yesterday marked the official opening of the Blackstone Valley Regional Recycling Center (BVRRC) for the towns of Northbridge, Uxbridge, Douglas, Sutton, Dudley, Blackstone, Millville, Holliston, Bellingham and Franklin, as well as the Blackstone-Millville, Sutton and Uxbridge school districts. Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, was one of the speakers for the grand opening of the recycling facility, which aims to reduce the amount of garbage that heads to landfills.

Moore pushes 40B affordable housing reforms

September 19, 2008...In a public hearing held yesterday by the Senate Committee on Post Audit and Oversight, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, also a committee member, suggested several reforms for the controversial affordable housing initiative-also known as Chapter 40B. The goal of 40B is to provide affordable housing in communities that have 10% or less of affordable housing available.

Medicine wins when doctors say no

Upon completing medical school, all the graduates were offered a free bag from a drug company. Since our class was full of semiradicals from the antiestablishment, war-hating tumultuous '60s, taking a free gift from "the man" was no small violation. But it was a cute little bag, and I had worked really hard to get it.
