Sen. Moore, other health leaders honored for health reform efforts New England Health Institute salutes innovators October 23, 2008...Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-MA, former Governor Mitt Romney, R-Belmont, House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi, D-Boston, former Senate President Robert E. Travaglini, D-Boston, and Rep. Patricia Walrath, D-Stow, were among thirteen leaders honored for their innovation in drafting, passing and implementing the landmark Massachusetts Health Reform Law by the New England Health Care Institute (NEHI) at a dinner this week in Boston. The new law, passed initially in 2006, has helped over 440,000 Massachusetts residents gain health insurance coverage.
Jack Connors, Chairman of Hill Holiday Advertising and Chairman of Partners Health Care; Paul Guzzi, President of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and former Secretary of State; Andrew Dreyfus, President of Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation; Reverend Hurman Hamilton, President of the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization; John McDonough, Former Executive Director of Health Care for All and current health policy advisor to Sen. Kennedy; Richard C. Lord, President and CEO of Associated Industries of Massachusetts; and Nancy Turnbull, Professor of Health Policy at Harvard University were also honored by the Institute. NEHI President Dr. Wendy Everett told the more than 400 business and health care leaders attending the celebration dinner at the Westin Hotel, "We are proud to recognize these individuals whose extraordinary efforts in achieving health care reform legislation in Massachusetts exemplify the collaborative efforts of our organization." Edward M. Kennedy, Jr. represented his father in accepting the award and congratulated all of the other awardees. WBZ-TV Arts and Entertainment reporter Joyce Kulhawik served as Mistress of Ceremonies for the event which also recognized NEHI's fifth anniversary. Sen. Moore, who was one of the principal authors of the health care reform law, and a new law to improve health care quality while containing costs said, "I am honored to be among such a distinguished group of health care leaders to be recognized for our work to bring high quality, safe, affordable health care to every resident of Massachusetts."
