Sen. Moore honored for leadership in patient safety, health care quality

Only elected official recognized for achievement

October 31, 2008...The Massachusetts Medical Law Report has selected Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, as one of thirty honorees for the first ever "Rx for Excellence Awards" honoring best practices in medicine. The Medical Law Report, published quarterly by Massachusetts Lawyer's Weekly, provides legal news for health care professionals. Moore and his fellow honorees were saluted today at an awards ceremony and breakfast at the Taj Hotel in Boston.

Moore joins Senate colleagues in Wilkerson Resolution

October 30, 2008... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, joined with his colleagues on the floor of the Massachusetts Senate today, in unanimously supporting a Senate Resolution that called on embattled Sen. Dianne Wilkerson, D-Boston, to resign her seat. The Resolution cited years of questionable activities, including her Federal Income Tax Evasion conviction, and her violations of campaign finance—something that the Senate considered as an improper exertion of her influence as a State Senator.

Lawmaker urges support for "CNN Super Hero"

October 30, 2008...Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, is running unopposed for re-election on November 4th, but that hasn't stopped him from seeking votes. Votes he is seeking however are for Liz McCartney, one of CNN's "Super Heroes," to be named "Super Hero of the Year." CNN initiated the project as an opportunity to recognize United States citizens that have shown exemplary service to their country through community service, educating, or simply doing good for the world.

October 23, 2008...Daniel DiAntonio of Milford, visits with Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, in front of the Massachusetts Firefighters Memorial at the State House. Daniel is currently a senior at Stonehill College majoring in Criminal Justice and Psychology, and is also a member of the Stonehill Rugby Team.

Sen. Moore, other health leaders honored for health reform efforts

October 23, 2008...Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-MA, former Governor Mitt Romney, R-Belmont, House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi, D-Boston, former Senate President Robert E. Travaglini, D-Boston, and Rep. Patricia Walrath, D-Stow, were among thirteen leaders honored for their innovation in drafting, passing and implementing the landmark Massachusetts Health Reform Law by the New England Health Care Institute (NEHI) at a dinner this week in Boston. The new law, passed initially in 2006, has helped over 440,000 Massachusetts residents gain health insurance coverage.

Budget computer game harkens back to tougher economic times that are here again 

October 22, 2008... In a recent release from The Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center (MassBudget), the organization teamed up with Boston.com and The Boston Globe to create an educational game that allows users to "play" with Massachusetts's budget to see how deeply or minimally certain cuts would affect other programs and entities of the Commonwealth. A similar game, which was spearheaded by Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute students in 2003, allowed users to experiment similarly with the budget, in providing scenarios that might occur with each individual budget cut.

Massachusetts Health Council: Mass. shows success in expansion of health services, but still leads in domestic violence 

October 22, 2008..In a report released by the Massachusetts Health Council (MHC), Massachusetts has shown a positive trend in reducing smoking and HIV/AIDS cases, while also expanding access to health care services.

Statement from Sen. Richard T. Moore, Senate Chair, Joint Committee on Health Care Financing, regarding statewide budget cuts

October 16, 2008...Yesterday, the Governor made significant reductions and outright cuts to the state budget that will have a serious impact on state services. Consequently, many of these programs will face a reduction in staff and/or the means necessary to operate them. In fact, some of the cuts included initiatives that I was involved in creating or maintaining, particularly in health care, so it is especially disheartening to see the toll this economic crisis has taken.

Moore attends commemoration of first Spanish-Language Mass in Southbridge

October 15, 2008... The 50th Anniversary of the first Spanish-Language Mass in Southbridge was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church on Sunday, October 12, 2008. Sen. and Mrs. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, presented the Spanish Community of St. Mary’s with a painting of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, as well as a Senate Citation recognizing the anniversary to Reverend Peter Joyce, Pastor of St. Mary’s.

Sen. Moore addresses National E-Prescribing Conference in Boston

October 7, 2008... The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) hosted a national e-prescribing conference at the Sheraton Boston Hotel this week to discuss the use of electronic prescription technology. E-Prescribing enables licensed medical practitioners to transmit prescriptions via the Internet, instead of writing them on paper.

Bridge dedication in Uxbridge to honor 1936 Olympic Medalist - Alice Bridges

October 2, 2008... Seventy-two years ago, a young woman from Uxbridge achieved Olympic fame winning the Bronze medal in the 100 meter backstroke at the 1936 Olympics in Munich, Germany. At the time, given the razor thin fraction of seconds between Alice W. Bridges of Uxbridge and the United States and the two women from Holland who took Gold and Silver, there was some discussion that international politics might have swayed the judge's medal decisions.

October 1, 2008...After months of bipartisan negotiations and meetings, state and federal health officials reached an agreement this week on a change in rules that allow the Commonwealth's landmark health care reform to continue with budgetary support from the federal government.

Sen. Moore applauds early success of Municipal Insurance Reform

October 1, 2008...Last July was the first opportunity for cities, towns, districts, charter schools, and planning councils to take advantage of the new municipal group insurance law, which allows municipalities the option of getting health insurance benefits for their employees and retirees through the Group Insurance Commission (GIC), according to Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge. The GIC reported that "new communities that joined the GIC were pleased with both the transition and savings that came with their decision to join."
