Max Penalties for Uninsured to Climb Above $1,000

December 29, 2008...Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, wants to alert constituents to new penalties for failure to have health insurance in Massachusetts. 

“I don’t want any of my constituents to be uninformed about costly penalties that they can avoid, and gaining any knowledge on important health benefits through obtaining health insurance,” said Sen. Moore.

Sen. and Mrs. Moore donate gingerbread house to the Webster-Dudley Boys and Girls Club

December 23, 2008...Happy Holidays to the youth of Webster-Dudley from Senator Moore.  The gingerbread house was donated by Senator and Mrs. Richard T. Moore to the Webster-Dudley Boys and Girls Club.  The house will be on display at the Club on Oxford Avenue for the next few days and then the boys and girls will be able to share the candy that is inside the house and the sleigh in the yard.

Sen. Moore lays wreath for Clara Barton’s birthday

December 22, 2008...Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, lays a wreath in Nurses Hall at the State House in remembrance of Clara Barton, who was born in North Oxford, MA on Christmas Day, December 25 in the year 1821. The plaque that is pictured with Sen. Moore honors Barton’s heroic efforts during the Civil War, when she helped care for wounded soldiers on the battlefield. Barton later went on to found the American Red Cross Foundation, and was a leading voice of the women’s suffrage movement after meeting Susan B. Anthony.

Celebrating the Life of a Great American Woman

On December 25, 1821, Clarissa Harlowe Barton was born in North Oxford, Massachusetts. She was the youngest child of Stephen and Sarah Barton, and destined to become the most famous. Whether you know of her legendary efforts to help wounded soldiers in the Civil War, which earned her the name “Angel of the Battlefield,” or as the founder of the American Red Cross, her birth – and more importantly her life, deserves to be celebrated.

Massachusetts Lawmaker Lobbies Obama for Stimulus Package

December 22, 2008...Massachusetts State Senator Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge) lobbied President-elect Barack Obama’s Transition Team last week to make Medicaid relief and health information technology investment projects a top priority in a multi-billion dollar economic stimulus package. The meeting was held at the Transition Team’s Washington, DC headquarters.

Moore: "Bay State should take Pickens's Energy Independence Pledge!"

December 17, 2008... The nation's state legislative leaders and legendary Texas oil and gas executive T. Boone Pickens met last weekend in Atlanta to discuss America's dependence on foreign oil. During the meeting, Massachusetts State Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, asked Pickens what states like Massachusetts could do to support his proposal. Pickens told Moore and his colleagues, "Urge your state Congressional delegation to get behind the plan and work to change your state's laws and regulation to promote use of domestic fuels in public transportation and commercial vehicle fleets."

Millville bridges to be named  “John Dean Bridges”

December 12, 2008... After years of hard work, dedication, and constant deliberation, the Central Street Bridge Project—consisting of five separate bridge segments throughout downtown Millville—has been finalized in construction and name. John Dean, a lifelong resident of Millville who served as the bridge complex’s strongest local voice, will officially have the bridges named after him under a bill that passed the Legislature yesterday.

December 12, 2008...In a report recently issued by the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), policy trends in states across the Union have indicated that state health information technology has increased dramatically in terms of legislation that has been filed. Some of the state bills that address health information technology simplify the ways to link crucial pieces of patient data that are scattered across health providers.

Moore calls for change in Drug Company marketing

December 9, 2008...In a keynote address to health advocates gathered in Washington, D.C., Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, who was one of the authors of Massachusetts’ landmark health reform law, called for changes in federal and state policies regarding the marketing of prescription drugs and medical devices. The call for “change” was issued during the second day of a conference entitled, “Righting the Script: Improving Prescription Drug Policy in an Era of Health Reform,” sponsored by The Prescription Project. The Prescription Project is a national initiative created with the Pew Charitable Trust and led by Community Catalyst to ensure safe and effective drugs for consumers.

Sen. Moore joins Administration in announcing Accelerated Bridge Program beneficiaries in Worcester & Norfolk District

December 8, 2008... Last week, Gov. Deval Patrick announced that the repair and replacement of nine bridges in Sen. Richard T. Moore’s, D-Uxbridge, Worcester & Norfolk District would be moving forward as part of the Governor’s $3 billion Accelerated Bridge Program approved by the Legislature in 2008.

Massachusetts continues upward trend in United Health Foundation’s state health rankings

December 4, 2008...Improving from its review in 2007, Massachusetts has been ranked as 6th in the nation in the United Health Foundation’s “America’s Health Rankings” evaluation for 2008. The annual survey, which has been conducted for 19 years, assesses various health institutions, behaviors, laws, and general “health determinants” when considering the annual rankings of all 50 states. Massachusetts was ranked 9th in 2007, improving three places since the last evaluation.
