Sen. Moore to speak at Mass Humanities event honoring Frederick Douglass speech
May 29, 2009 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, will be joining other state and city officials, schoolchildren, passersby, and other members of the public to gather in front of the State House at noon on Tuesday, June 2nd, to hear and participate in a communal reading of Frederick Douglass’s fiery speech, “The Meaning of the Fourth of July for the Negro.” It is the kickoff event for a series of grassroots-level readings across the state, leading up to Independence Day.

Sen. Moore honors all Veterans on Memorial Day 2009
May 26, 2009 ... Maintaining a busy weekend schedule honoring Memorial Day, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, marched with the Blackstone Memorial Day Parade on Sunday, May 24, 2009. Later in the day, he was the principal speaker at the World War II Veterans Memorial in Douglas. Prior to the Blackstone Parade, Sen. Moore attended the Rededication Ceremony for the Jewish War Veterans Memorial on Pine Street in Milford.

(NCSL), of which Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, is Vice President of, applauds Representatives Virginia
Foxx, R-North Carolina, and Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, for introducing the Unfunded Mandates Information and Transparency Act of 2009 (H.R. 2255). The legislation amends the Unfunded Mandates Reform Act of 1995
(UMRA) to help restore the legislative intent of UMRA by requiring more complete and accurate costs estimates.

Sen. Moore laments “state budget calamity”
May 22, 2009
... “The most disappointing state budget in recent memory,” was the way Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, described the Senate’s version of the FY10 state budget as he left the Senate Chamber following the final vote. The $ 27.35 billion budget bill, approved by the Senate, now goes to a House-Senate Conference Committee for resolution of differences. Some lawmakers have speculated that if state revenues continue to decline, the final budget could actually be smaller than the versions approved by either branch or than the one initially filed by the Governor in January.

Sen. Moore joins dignitaries in celebrating
Massachusetts Lafayette Day
May 20, 2009 ... Today, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge,
joined dignitaries and citizens in celebrating Massachusetts Lafayette
Day. Called the Hero of the Two Worlds, the General Marquis de Lafayette (1757-1834) fought on behalf of France for the Independence of the United States at the side of General George Washington, serving as his aide-de-camp. A close friend to Washington and many of the Founding Fathers, Lafayette was wounded at the Battle of Brandywine, successfully led an independent command during the famed “Virginia Campaign”, and served gallantly at Yorktown.
A frequent visitor to Boston, he was made an honorary Citizen of the United States in 2002, being only one of six such persons.

Mitchell" Award to Oxford student

20, 2009 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, presents the Civil Air Patrol’s “General Billy Mitchell Award” to Cadet 2nd Lt. Tyler Walsh, a sophomore at Oxford High School, during recent ceremonies at CAP Squadron Headquarters at Worcester Regional Airport. Tyler, age 16, has participated in the Civil Air Patrol since age 12 and is trained in radio communications, first aid, search and rescue, flight training, and more.

Moore rejects state tax increase proposals
May 20, 2009 ... In an effort to protect taxpayers of the Commonwealth during this time of economic distress, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, voted against all state tax increase proposals offered by the Massachusetts Senate in yesterday’s budget debate. Headlining the proposals on the table late last night was a sales tax increase from 5% to 6.25%, which was ultimately approved by the Senate on a vote of 29-10. Moore also voted against a failed income tax increase proposal, and several failed gas tax increase proposals.

Moore, D-Uxbridge, presents Senate citations to two local recipients of the Sixth Annual Unsung Heroines of Massachusetts Awards, in the Senate Chamber, along with Rep. Jennifer Callahan, D-Sutton, (Left) and Rep. Paul Kujawski, D-Webster, (Right). Ms. Kathleen Romasco of Sutton (Left of Sen. Moore) has been a public school teacher of over 35 years and has been a devoted advocate of advancing special education for disabled students. Ms. Eileen Cardogno of Douglas (Right of Sen. Moore) is the founder of the Bereavement Committee at St. Denis Church, which she founded 26 years ago, and continues to dedicate her services to help families arrange funeral services for their loved ones.

“Boom Boom Pow,” by the Black Eyed Peas, is topping the recording charts, but it could just as well be the sound of the recession hitting Americans where it hurts. Nearly every newspaper and TV, radio, or Internet news report these days contains stories about the global economic crisis. Some of our neighbors, friends and relatives have lost their jobs or investments due to the recession. Others are taking less in pay and are worried about becoming an unemployment statistic. It’s harder to pay the mortgage or rent, the college tuition, car payment, or even the groceries. We’re making less money and, given the lack of affordable credit, we’re not buying more than the basic needs.

May 6, 2009 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, meets with Dr. Stephen Hayes, and his
wife Clare, at the State House for a luncheon honoring Dr. Hayes’s work of over 40 years
in community mental health. Sen. Moore, a longtime friend of Dr. Hayes, offered the keynote speech for yesterday's luncheon, which also served as an inauguration for the Dr. Stephen D. Hayes Community Mental Health Project at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. The project is designed to encourage graduates of MSPP to apply to the federal student loan forgiveness program in exchange for service in community mental health settings.

May 4, 2009 ... On their ride to attend the Spring Forum of the National Conference of State Legislatures this spring, Senator and Mrs. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, visited Sagamore Hill National Historic Site in Oyster Bay, Long Island. “It’s an important site because it was the home of one of America’s greatest presidents, and it only a day-trip from the Blackstone Valley,” Sen. Moore explained.

D-Uxbridge, joins with Rep. Geraldo Alicea, D-Charlton, to honor Dan Kerber of Troop 160 Southbridge at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor.
Sen. Moore makes a special effort to attend such events as often as his schedule permits,
as the attainment of Eagle Scout rank signifies genuine leadership, civic engagement, and community service on the part of the young man being recognized. Over the years, several Eagle Scouts have been selected to serve as interns or members of the Senator's State House staff.
