Sen. Moore attends the People First Food Pantry reopening September 29, 2009 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, recently presented an official Senate citation to the People First Food Pantry in Uxbridge, MA, in recognition of their relocation and reopening at 19 Douglas Street. Joined by Sen. Moore in the presentation, were (L-R) Joan Remillard, food pantry volunteer; Rep. Jennifer Callahan, D-Sutton; Rev. Gordon Merten, Reverend of the 1st Evangelical Congregational Church, which has donated the Pantry’s current space; Denise Mussulli, People First Food Pantry Coordinator (accepting the citation from Sen. Moore); Karen Griffin, food pantry volunteer; and Jean McMurrary, Director of the Worcester County Food Bank. During the ceremony, food pantry volunteer Karen Griffin offered some valuable information about the facility, whose new location at Douglas Street was graciously donated by Rev. Merten and the 1st Evangelical Congregational Church. Among the figures cited, the People First Food Pantry has over 50 volunteers; has served 1,447 clients as of August 30, 2009—37% representing children, and 5% seniors over 65. Additionally, Griffin offered that by the end of this year, the Pantry expects to serve 2,200 clients. The People First Food Pantry is open Wednesdays, from 11am-1pm, and 6:30pm-8:00pm, and may be contacted at 508-278-5506 or thepeoplefirstfoodpantry@msn.com. In addition to the 19 Douglas Street location, you may also deliver any donations to the Pantry’s new drop off location at the Uxbridge Free Public Library. |
