thanked for new Uxbridge Fire apparatus
October 31, 2009 ... While the devastating fire that destroyed the Bernat Mill Complex in downtown Uxbridge two years ago was a tragedy for the community and many small businesses, there was a silver-lining of sorts from the event. As a result of the prompt action of
Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, aided by State Representatives Paul Kujawksi,
D-Webster, and Jennifer Callahan, D-Sutton, state relief funds were appropriated to compensate Uxbridge and area towns for their time and equipment to fight the fire, and to help Uxbridge replace two aging fire trucks.

RMV commences electronic notification system
October 28, 2009 ... Recently, the
Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles began its online notification
system for license renewals. After public outcry regarding the
termination of mailed license renewal reminder notices, the Office of
the Governor responded by establishing a free, online web service that

Program offers out-of-state tuition break for
Massachusetts residents
October 22, 2009 ...
Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, is encouraging residents of the Worcester & Norfolk District to utilize the New England Board of Higher Education’s “Tuition Break” program. The service provides a discount on out-of-state tuition to Massachusetts residents who enroll in approved degree programs at state colleges and universities in Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Vermont.

Health care leader opens up day’s events
October 22, 2009 ... Today, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, opened the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) “Legislators in the Lab” program at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. “Legislators in the Lab” brings small groups of state legislators into medical schools, where they have the opportunity to learn firsthand about cardiovascular disease diagnostic tools, demographics, and treatment strategies for medical professionals.

Massachusetts health reform a model for the nation
Local legislator played integral role in shaping policy
October 21, 2009 ... As debate surrounding national health care proposals continues to rage on, Massachusetts has served as a leading example in the success of health reform. In a recent report issued by the Division of Health Care Finance and Policy, over 6.3 million individuals in the Commonwealth have health insurance—maintaining Massachusetts as number one in the nation for coverage, at 97.3 percent. While there are still gaps that need to be filled for the other 2.7 percent, Massachusetts’ model has inspired many lawmakers in Washington, including the leading effort of the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy.

Fighting the Flu—One Child, or One State, at a Time

According to the federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC), influenza activity during October continued to increase in the United States. Flu activity is now widespread in 41 states. Nationwide, visits to doctors for influenza-like illness continued to increase and are now about equal to or higher than what is seen at the peak of many regular flu seasons. In addition, flu-related hospitalizations and deaths are continuing to go up and are above what is expected for this time of year.

Local High Schools are encouraged to participate in Annual Student Government Day at the State House
Veteran lawmaker cites importance of annual event
October 16, 2009 ... For 63 years now, the Massachusetts State House has welcomed High School students from across the Commonwealth to “Student Government Day.” Since the beginning of the program, many future legislators, administrators, and leaders have attended, no doubt learning a great deal from the mock legislative sessions that occur. One of these individuals was Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, who participated as a Hopedale High School student, and went on to enter public service as a Selectman in 1970. Since then, Sen. Moore has served the Commonwealth—and for a two year period at the federal level—for nearly 40 years.

Blackstone, Douglas, and Sutton receive Volunteer Fire Assistance Grants
October 15, 2009 ... Sen. Richard T.
Moore, D-Uxbridge, recently announced that the Towns of Blackstone,
Douglas, and Sutton have received grant funding from the Volunteer Fire
Assistance Program (VFA) administered by the Executive of Environmental
Affairs and the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).
Blackstone, which was awarded $1,600; Douglas, awarded $1,978; and
Sutton, awarded $999, are three of 45 towns across the Commonwealth to
receive the grants.

Uxbridge Cub Scouts visit Sen. Moore at the State House
October 14, 2009 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, recently welcomed a troop of Uxbridge Cub Scouts to the State House for a personal tour of the Massachusetts Legislature’s Senate Chamber. Also joining Sen. Moore to greet the troop was Rep. Jennifer Callahan, D-Sutton. Sen. Moore shared with the Scouts the Senate Chamber’s storied history, and fielded a bevy of questions from the youths. Afterwards, the Troop was shown the remainder of the Massachusetts State House with a tour guide from the State House Tours office.

Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society recognizes innovative thinking of veteran lawmaker
October 13, 2009 ... Recognizing the hard work and dedication of the Commonwealth’s leading health care advocate in the State Legislature, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, was recently named “State Legislator of the Year” by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) for his promotion of the expansion of health information technology in Massachusetts and across the nation. Sen. Moore is Senate Chairman of the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Health Care Financing, and was a principal architect of Massachusetts’ landmark health care reform law of 2006, and the Quality and Cost Containment law of 2008.

October 7, 2009 ... With people living longer and healthier lives, the desire for seniors to remain independent has grown. Recognizing this, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, is encouraging local residents to consult the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts’ new home care services guide, “2010 Guide to Private Home Care Services: A Directory of Private Home Care Agencies in Massachusetts.” The directory offers Massachusetts residents a listing of reputable, professional home care providers by town and county as well as valuable information on how to both choose and pay for home care.

The Pulaski Boulevard Bellingham road improvement project has just received $13.0 Million in State and Federal funding. The four year funding road improvement funding plan is known as the 2010-2013 TIP (Traffic Improvement Plan). It was published on October 2nd. The Pulaski Project is listed for Federal Fiscal Year 2010, which starts October 1, 2009.

receives “Legislative Champion Award” from the Massachusetts
Association of Community Health Workers
October 6, 2009 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, was recently awarded a “Legislative Champion Award,” from the Massachusetts Association of Community Health Workers (MACHW), for his steadfast support of community health workers throughout the Commonwealth. Community health workers that are part of MACHW include outreach educators, patient navigators, community coordinators, and dozens of other positions that comprise the growing and vital profession. MACHW serves as an important resource for the workers, having been instrumental in fostering collaborative efforts to promote, educate, and research the profession. Sen. Moore has consistently noted the importance of the community health work force, and has championed many of their initiatives as Senate Chairman of the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Health Care Financing.

Sen. Moore launches 2009 Americas’ Legislators Back to School Program for Massachusetts
October 5, 2009 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, recently spoke with legislators and staff members at the State House about the National Conference of State Legislatures' “America's Legislators Back to School Program.” The program is an annual nation-wide event that begins in the fall and continues throughout the academic school year. Under the direction of the Senate President and Speaker of the House, the program is administered in Massachusetts by the Legislative Education Office. NCSL makes available, free of charge, publications and video resource materials for high school, middle/junior high school and elementary school students to be used by State Legislators visiting classrooms.

Middle/High School project moves forward
October 1, 2009 ... In
a recent article from the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, the
Southbridge Middle/High School project is highlighted as being one of
several that the Massachusetts School Building Authority green lighted
into the next phase of planning. Sen. Richard T. Moore,
D-Uxbridge, has offered letters of support for the Southbridge project,
and was a sponsor of the legislation that created the School Building
Authority. Sen. Moore stated, "I
am especially pleased to see the Authority recognizing a clear need for
new facilities, and in working with Southbridge officials and residents."
