Milford awarded $10,550 for renewable energy projects

State properly responding to Toyota Prius recall
Sen. Moore calls on State Purchasing Agent to ensure safety of state drivers
February 25, 2010 ... Taking notice of a number of Toyota Prius automobiles sporting state license plates, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, recently took action in ensuring employees’ safety, given the nationwide recall on many Toyota car models. In a letter addressed to the Massachusetts State Purchasing Agent, Sen. Moore inquired as to how many Prius’ the state has in its possession, and whether or not any action had been taken in bringing the models to the manufacturer for inspection.

Sen. Moore joins colleagues in supporting American Heart Month in Massachusetts
February 18, 2010 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, (top row, center) stands in support with his colleagues in the Legislature to support Go Red For Women at the Massachusetts State House. Go Red For Women, which was held on February 2, is the American Heart Association’s campaign to raise awareness among women about heart disease, which kills one woman a minute. In fact, heart disease kills more women than the next five leading causes of death combined—including all forms of cancer. In addition, the direct and indirect cost of cardiovascular diseases in the U.S., including stroke, averages $475.3 billion annually.

DHCD Weather Assistance Program grant awarded to Uxbridge
Stimulus funding supports grant for Housing Authority
February 17, 2010 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, Rep. Jennifer Callahan, D-Sutton, and Rep. Paul Kujawski, D-Webster, recently announced that the Uxbridge Housing Authority will be receiving $132,110 for heating system replacements in the Housing Authority’s Veterans Parkway and Waterman Apartments facilities in Uxbridge. The Award is being funded largely through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Weatherization Assistance Program. The program provides eligible households with full-scale home energy conservation services.

Last month, the state reported that the Massachusetts jobless rate had jumped in December to 9.4 percent, up from 8.7 percent in November. The numbers clearly showed that workers are still taking it on the economic chin here. But economists say employment is growing in key sectors in Massachusetts, suggesting that the economy may be close to actually generating jobs.

Sen. Moore joins Governor Patrick in announcing $25.6 million in federal funding for health information technology
Grants will support technologies to control costs and enhance quality of health care
February 16, 2010 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, a Democrat from Uxbridge who is Senate Chairman of the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Health Care Financing, recently joined Governor Deval Patrick and the Massachusetts Congressional Delegation in announcing that Massachusetts has secured $25.6 million in federal funding to support health information technology initiatives in the Commonwealth. Massachusetts will receive a $15 million grant to support the implementation of electronic health records for approximately 2,500 health care providers in small group practices across the Commonwealth and an additional $10.6 million grant to support the development of a secure network to support a statewide health information exchange.

Senate freezes unemployment insurance rate to relieve small business burden and boost new jobs
February 12, 2010 ... In an effort to relieve economic burdens on small businesses and create new jobs, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, on Thursday voted to freeze the Unemployment Insurance rate, which was scheduled to increase by nearly $300 per employee. Without the freeze, the average employer would see the per-employee payment jump from $584 to $852.

February 11, 2010 ... Sen. and Mrs. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, enjoy pancakes served by Milford Scout Troop 4 at St. Mary's of the Assumption Parish Center last Sunday, February 7. Sen. Moore, a frequent speaker at Eagle Scout Courts of Honor, is a long-time supporter of the scouting program and, this week, introduced a Senate Resolution honoring the Boy Scouts of America on the one hundredth anniversary of the organization. Sen. Moore answers constituent’s call for help
Veteran lawmaker asks colleagues to join in pushing for reform of commercial vehicle regulation on pickup trucks
February 9, 2010 ... Recently sworn-in Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown’s infamous pickup truck isn’t the only truck that Brown’s former colleague, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, has heard about lately. Recently, the veteran lawmaker was asked by a Webster constituent to help combat a Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) policy that requires some private truck owners to pay for commercial plates. Registry regulations state that “any vehicle with five or more wheels on the ground” must be registered commercially.

Senate passes Optometric Care legislation, increases access and reduces costs
Sen. Moore’s bill heads to the House of Representatives
February 8, 2010 ... The Senate recently passed legislation that brings Massachusetts one step further in joining the other 49 states in increasing access and reducing costs for eye care and glaucoma treatment. Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, who is Senate Chairman of the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Health Care Financing, has offered the legislation that allows optometrists to prescribe medications and treat glaucoma. Currently, optometrists are only allowed to co-manage treatment, and patients must visit an ophthalmologist to actually receive prescriptions and direct treatment.

February 4, 2010 ... Councils on Aging (COA) throughout the Worcester & Norfolk District will soon be receiving significant state funds from the Executive Office of Elder Affairs, according to Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge.
The district will be receiving $177,793 in total funding, as part of the
Department's Councils on Aging Formula Grants program.

Local communities receive $67,440 in funding from Massachusetts Cultural Council
February 2, 2010 ... Local cultural councils have been awarded a total of $67,440 in funding from the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, recently announced. The funding will be used to support cultural programs within communities in the Worcester & Norfolk district that Sen. Moore represents. Each council receives an appropriation from MCC, based on the state of local aid formula, and uses it to award grants based on individual community needs.

Chief Rabbi of Poland speaks with Massachusetts
Polish Legislative Caucus
February 1, 2010 ... Before World War II, the largest Jewish population in any country could be found in Poland. By 1944, ninety percent of that population had been killed or fled Nazi persecution. The remaining Jews in Poland and those who returned after the war found life under Soviet Communism only marginally better causing many Jews to keep their religion secret. However, the return of democracy to Poland in 1989 and the influence of Pope John Paul II, has resulted in a more robust and optimistic Jewish community.

Sen. Moore responds to concerned residents
on ATV legislation February 1, 2010 ...
Last week, in a formal session of the Massachusetts State Senate, Sen.
Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, voted against Senate Bill 2251, An Act to Regulate the Use of Off Highway and Recreation
Vehicles. While the Senator understands the need to protect
children from injury, he ultimately voted against the legislation
because of its denial of a family being able to enjoy a recreational
activity while practicing responsible, commonsense supervision.
Sen. Moore received many e mails and calls on the legislation, which
aided the Senator in offering several amendments to the bill. You
