Sen. Moore votes for prudent budget, continuing on the path to reform and focusing on small business relief

May 28, 2010 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, joined his colleagues on early Friday morning in passing a $28.4 billion balanced budget for the 2011 fiscal year, focusing on prudent expenditures, reforms and economic development. In a conscious effort to unburden residents and keep the Commonwealth on solid fiscal footing, the Senate’s budget does not contain any earmarks or rely on any additional taxes or withdrawals from the stabilization fund. The Senate used a combination of spending reductions and legislative reforms to close the $2.85 billion budget gap.

Senate includes budget transparency provision in 2011 appropriations bill

Sen. Moore key sponsor of amendment that increases public accessibility and review

May 27, 2010 ... During its ongoing budget debate, the Senate recently unanimously approved a budget transparency amendment that creates a searchable state budget web site. Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, was a key sponsor of the amendment, which has also been filed as House Bill 2972 during this legislative session. Transparency advocates praised the vote by Sen. Moore and his Massachusetts Senate colleagues, stating that it will set a new standard for government transparency and accountability.

May 27, 2010 ... Taking a momentary break from the FY 11 Senate budget debate that will continue through late hours Thursday evening, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, joined his Senate colleagues in holding a Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony in the Senate Chamber at 3:00pm. Senate Ways and Means Chairman Steven C. Panagiotakos, D-Lowell, organized the event which was commenced with a presentation of the colors by Lowell High School ROTC members.

Moore welcomes Brown to his district

May 25, 2010 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, as a Trustee of Nichols College in Dudley, recently welcomed his former colleague, U. S. Senator Scott Brown, to the Nichols Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 8th. Moore, who was among those who invited Brown to be the 2010 Nichols' Commencement Speaker, formerly served with Brown in adjoining Senate districts. During his first commencement address since being elected to "the people's seat," using the example of his own surprise victory in January, US Senator Scott Brown encouraged graduates of Nichols College yesterday to persevere when others doubt their abilities.

On Memorial Day – Don’t forget those who wait at home

Memorial Day, for all of us, should mark more than the beginning of summer and a time for a cookout. It should also be a time to honor those who fought and those who died protecting our freedom and values. Last fall, Joanne and I had the privilege of visiting the American Cemetery on Omaha Beach in Normandy. As we walked among the long rows of nearly ten thousand white crosses interspersed with occasional Stars of David, it was a most moving experience. So many brave, young Americans died that June of 1944 to begin the liberation of Europe, and so many others have fallen in the service of our country throughout its history. We remember their sacrifice and the debt that we all owe.

Sen. Moore commemorates Massachusetts Lafayette Day
Massachusetts Lafayette Day

May 20, 2010 ... On Thursday, May 20, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, joined dignitaries and citizens of the United States and France in celebrating Massachusetts Lafayette Day at the State House. Called the Hero of the Two Worlds, General Marquis de Lafayette (1757-1834) fought on behalf of France for the Independence of the United States at the side of General George Washington, serving as his aide-de-camp. A close friend to Washington and many of the Founding Fathers, Lafayette was wounded at the Battle of Brandywine, successfully led an independent command during the famed “Virginia Campaign,” and served gallantly at Yorktown. A frequent visitor to Boston, he was made an honorary Citizen of the United States in 2002, being only one of six such persons.

Sen. Moore leads fight for small biz relief

May 19, 2010 ... "Helping the state's small business owners obtain health insurance for themselves and their employees will help those businesses retain or add jobs, hastening the economic recovery, " Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, told his Senate colleagues after leading a five hour debate on a bill to lower the cost of small business health insurance. The bill, drafted by Moore and Senate President Therese Murray, D-Plymouth, won approval by a vote of 33-4, and now goes to the House of Representatives for consideration.

Sen. Moore announces Leovich Landing grant for French River Connection

May 17, 2010 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, recently announced that the French River Connection will be receiving $6,000 from the Last Green Valley for the development of a canoe and kayak access point and parking lot at Leovich landing, a four acre parcel of land located in the Town of Oxford. The French River Connection, headquartered in Webster, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and revitalization of the French River corridor in the towns of Webster, Dudley, and Oxford.

Sen. Moore votes for municipal relief and pension reform package

May 14, 2010 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, and his colleagues in the Senate unanimously passed on Thursday a municipal relief bill that gives cities and towns new tools and local options to plan budgets, pool resources and save money. The legislation also includes new pension reform provisions that will generate millions of dollars in savings for local and state retirement systems.

The veteran legislator, who is Senate Chairman of the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Health Care Financing, discussed with those in attendance some of the challenges that face the nursing profession.

Anniversary of Polish Constitution celebrated by Polish American Congress, Polish Legislative Caucus

May 3, 2010 ... Celebrating the 219th anniversary of Poland’s Constitution, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, joined with members of the Polish American Congress of Eastern and Western Massachusetts, and the Legislature’s Polish Caucus, in commemorating Poland’s democracy and in honoring the late Polish President Lech Kaczynski, who tragically died alongside his wife, and ninety-five other Polish leaders, in a plane crash on Saturday, April 10. Sen. Moore has organized over the past several weeks a condolences book for the people and government of Poland. Receiving messages from legislators, state officials, religious leaders, and general residents, Sen. Moore is presenting the book and an official copy of the recent Senate adjournment in memory of President Kaczynski to the Polish Consul General, so that it may be offered to the people of Poland.
