Moore responds to State of the Union

January 25, 2011 ... In response President Obama’s State of the Union address to Congress this evening, Sen. Richard T. Moore applauded the President’s call for building a bipartisan consensus toward a new era of innovation in America and support for investing in education, research and development; as well as efforts to streamline government, promoting transparency, and reducing the level of debt.

"I believe most Americans want a more civil public policy debate and want bi-partisan cooperation to put people back to work and make government work better and more efficiently,” said Senator Moore, who is currently President of the National Conference of State Legislatures, a bi-partisan group of the nation's thousands of state lawmakers and their staffs. “I hope that the Obama Administration and the Congress, as they develop the formula for “winning the future” will avoid new federal mandates on state and local governments and will avoid pre-empting state revenue sources as they look at reform of the federal tax code,” he added.

"I was especially pleased to hear that the Obama Administration wants to reduce the regulatory burden of government. I hope that includes being sensitive to the burden of surface water run-off regulations that are a concern to businesses in Milford and Bellingham and across the state,” he noted.
