Sen. Moore urges area businesses to consider global business opportunities

January 28, 2011 ... The Massachusetts Export Center is hosting an International Business Forum and Networking Evening on February 10th at Bingham McCutchen LLP, One Federal Street, Boston. The program begins at 4:30PM and has a modest tuition charge. Registration deadline is February 3.

"This program is a great opportunity for Central Massachusetts businesses seeking to compete in the global marketplace," noted Sen. Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge), a member of the Legislature's Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies. "As businesses seek to expand their market base and create jobs, programs such as this offer some helpful tips and insight into entering or expanding activities in the world economy," he added.

The evening will feature a global trade and economic outlook forum, a resource center with international trade associations, and government agencies exhibiting. "It is an excellent opportunity to meet people and businesses interested in world trade while learning about the resources available to help your company's international business," according to state officials.

In the current economic crisis, businesses are concerned more than ever about the outlook for the economy, both at home and abroad. The program will help business leaders to understand what global economic indicators are predicting, which markets have been badly hit by recession and which offer a bright spot on the horizon.

The featured speaker for the evening is Geoffrey S. Somes, Senior Economist, State Street Global Advisors. Somes has worked closely with SSgA Chief Economist Christopher Probyn since 2005, forecasting and analyzing economic events in the global economy and evaluating their impacts on financial markets. His research focuses on the U.S., the U.K., Canada and Australia.
