The “Best of Times, the Worst of Times”
By Sen. Richard T. Moore
January 18, 2011 ... As the author, Charles Dickens, began his classic novel, “Tale of Two Cities,” he noted that “it was the best of times; it was the worst of times.” While he was comparing a peaceful, prosperous England with a dangerous, revolutionary France, his description might well apply to Beacon Hill today as one legislative session ends, and another begins. Despite a devastating economic picture, we have made positive achievements, and in the face of continuing economic turmoil, we must continue to make progress.

"Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but names..."
By Sen. Richard T. Moore
January 14, 2011 ... Most of us remember the timeworn childhood retort when another child called us a name. "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me!"

To contain health costs, state should try a new way of paying
Boston Globe Editorial
January 2, 2011 ... Governor Patrick's promised push for controls on the rising costs of health care couldn’t come at a better time for the state and its economy. While tax collections are finally rising again after a deep drop, increases in Medicaid spending are consuming virtually all the gains. Small businesses still face brutal premium hikes.
