July 29, 2011 ... After receiving support from the largest online retailer in the United States - Amazon.com Inc - and Illinois-based Sears Roebuck and Co., U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Representatives, John Conyers (D-MI) and Peter Welch (D-VT) today introduced a bill to allow local Main Street retailers to compete more effectively against out-of-state internet sellers. The legislation is cosponsored by Senators Tim Johnson (D-SD) and Jack Reed (D-RI) in the Senate and Representatives Heath Shuler (D-NC) in the House.

So it’s little surprise that people have strong feelings about whether it should take place in a hospital or a home. Ultimately, a birth plan is the parents’ choice, so long as they understand the risks involved. But a bill to create new oversight for Massachusetts midwives who perform home births could make the home-birth option even safer. It deserves the Legislature’s support.

July 21, 2011 ... Attending the monthly meeting of the Central Massachusetts Metropolitan Planning Organization (CMMPO) this week at Union Station, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, spoke strongly in favor of funding for three key transportation projects in the region. The projects are: Boston Road-Route 146 intersection enhancements in Sutton, reconstruction of Sutton Street in Northbridge, and reconstruction of Center Road in Dudley.

Moore presents district transportation priorities at regional hearing

July 20, 2011 ... At a regional hearing of the Joint Committee on Transportation in Worcester today, Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, presented various transportation issues he has been working on and advocating for throughout the Worcester & Norfolk District.  With an acknowledgement that many infrastructure upgrades or additions are subject to a tightly scrutinized budget, the veteran legislator sought to remind the committee members, who hail from all parts of the Commonwealth, about the lack of public transportation available to many residents, and the potential economic impact any improvements may have on the region.

July 12, 2011 ... Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, Chairman of the Committee on Health Care Financing joined 64 of his colleagues, including Rep. John Fernandes, D-Milford, in signing a letter to Executive Office of Health and Human Services Secretary, Judy Ann Bigby, calling for a delay in changes that would eliminate leaves-of-absences bed holds from Mass Health nursing home regulations until funding can be restored. Protections for bed holds will be eliminated at the end of July.

Moore, D-Uxbridge, together with his colleagues in the Legislature, passed a $30.59 billion spending plan for Fiscal Year 2012 Friday, aimed at increasing government efficiency, cutting costs and shielding essential services.
