October 31, 2012 ... The Office of Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, announced today that a reception for the State House exhibit honoring victims of the Jewish Holocaust, originally scheduled for Monday, October 29th at 12:00 p.m. in Nurses Hall, has been rescheduled to Friday, November 2nd at 12:30 p.m.

Sen. Richard T. Moore, D-Uxbridge, announced a two week-long historical exhibit about the Auschwitz concentration camp in honor of the victims who were killed during the World War II era Jewish Holocaust.

The international exhibit, entitled "Konzentrationslager Auschwitz: An Exhibit," utilizes several hundred photographs and photocopied documents to illustrate the history of the Auschwitz-Birkenau German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp (1940-1945) with special emphasis on the killing of the Jews and the resistance movement. An important component of the presentation is a historical introduction covering Nazi ideology and the start of the Second World War.

"It is vitally important for all of us, in this age when religious and ethnic intolerance and violence continues to be at the root of the world's conflicts, to understand the profound human tragedy that happened to Jews in Nazi-occupied Europe, and for us to resolve never again to tolerate such depraved actions by any government or group," said Sen. Moore. "We must never forget how fragile civilized society was then, and in many respects, continues to be. Exhibits such as this remind us of the inhumanity of man."

The Exhibit was prepared by the State Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau in Auschwitz and is on an exclusive loan to the Polish Cultural Foundation of Boston with the help from a dedicated group of sponsors including: the American Jewish Committee; the Anti-Defamation League, New England; the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany; the Consulate General of Israel; and the Consulate of Poland.

The Exhibit will be on display in Doric Hall at the Massachusetts State House from October 22nd to November 2nd, and may be viewed from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

A reception will be held on Monday, October 29th at 12:00 p.m. in Nurses Hall with a speaking program including keynote remarks from Mr. Izzy Arbeiter, an Auschwitz-Birkenau survivor. The general public is welcome to attend. (Note: The reception has now been rescheduled to Friday, November 2nd at 12:30 p.m.)

Sen. Moore serves as a Co-Chairman of the Legislature's Polish Caucus. In this capacity, he has sought to promote Polish history and culture through opportunities like the Auschwitz exhibit.
